She is This, a collaborative book by painter Audrey Gair and writer Delali Ayivor uses works from Gair’s 2020 solo exhibition “Sana Sana” as a point of departure to ask questions about what is created in the encounter between viewer and artwork. Grounded in the intimacy of the two artists’ friendship, in a series of essays Ayivor writes into and across the imagined worlds of Gair’s paintings, folding in notions of postcoloniality, pandemic induced disreality, late-capitalist skepticism and ultimately asking the reader: “what did you see?”
